How to Use Hashtags to Grow your Beauty Business

Hashtags are a great way to grow your Instagram following. IG users use hashtags to find stylists in their area. They also use hashtags to find inspiration for their next nail set or hairstyle. If you're not using hashtags, you are missing out on a chance for more people to see your content.

Instagram allows you to use up to 30 hashtags per post. I suggest using all 30 on every single post. You can add hashtags to the end of your caption or post them as a comment.

One mistake that a lot of stylists will make when using hashtags is to choose 30 hashtags and to use the same hashtags on every single post. The hashtags you use should be specific to the photos you are posting. Try using 20 hashtags that are specific to the picture you are posting and 10 that are more general to your industry. Examples of specific hashtags are tags that include your city, state, area code, and the kind of style that you posted.

If I was a hairstylist in Miami that posted a picture of a silk press on natural hair, these are some of the specific hashtags that I would use:

#Miamistylist #Miamihair #Miamihairstylist #Miamisilkpress #Miaminaturalhair #Miamihairsalon #305Hair #305silkpress #305naturalhairstylist #305silkwrap #305naturalstylist #305blowouts #southfloridahairstylist #Southfloridahair

These are some of the general hashtags I would use:

#Silkpressmasters #silkpress #naturalhairstylist #Type4hair #silkpressqueen #healthyhair #naturalhaircare

Hashtags are a great way to grow your account when you use the right ones. Finding the right mix of hashtags for your account will take some trial and error, but after a while, you'll find your groove.
