What to Include in your Bio as a Beauty Pro

Your Instagram bio may be costing you clients. Here's why:

New clients are coming to your page and they don't know what service you offer, where you're located, or how to book with you. The only thing they see is "NO DMS"

Your bio is the first thing potential clients see when they come to your page. It's also where they look for vital information about you and your beauty business. It's important that it makes a good impression. Your bio should establish you as a beauty professional and invite clients to book with you.

Here are six items that your bio should include:

Your Name and Salon Name

Include your name, so that clients know how to address you, as well as your salon name. When editing your profile, include this in the "name" portion, this will make it bold on your profile.

Positioning Statement

Your positioning statement is one to two sentences that describe what you do, who you serve, and what you help them to achieve. My positioning statement is "Social media manager helping beauty pros grow their online audience while spending less time on the gram." This statement outlines who I am, who I serve, and what I help them to do. An example of a positioning statement for an esthetician is, "Licensed esthetician helping millennial women simplify their skincare routine." There are more examples of positioning statements below.

Beauty Pro Type

Let people know what type of beauty service provider you are. Example: Hairstylist, esthetician, nail technician, etc. If this is included in your positioning statement, there's no need to repeat it.

Call to Action

Decide what you want people to do when they visit your page. This can include booking an appointment, enrolling in a course, or buying a product. Decide what you want them to do and how you want them to do it. Ex: Book an appointment below.

Link

Include a link that takes followers to your call to action. If your call to action is "Book an appointment below" then the link should take clients to your online scheduling platform. If you have multiple links, consider using a platform like Linktree to host all of the links.

Location

Include the city and state where your business is located. If you're comfortable, include the street address as well.

Here are examples of Instagram bios that include some if not all of the elements listed above. Use them as inspiration when creating your Instagram bio.
