How to Take Better Client Photos & Videos

I always say that client photos & videos should take up about 75 - 90% of your Instagram page. They are what bring people to your page and what keeps them scrolling. Since they are so important and take up so much real estate, you want to make sure your client photos and videos are up to par and show off your work in the best way possible.

First things first, you don't need fancy equipment to capture great content. In most cases, your smartphone's camera will be able to get the job done and the pictures will be clear enough to post on social media. Your phone's camera along with the next three tips will upgrade your client photos and videos.

Lighting

One of the most important things you need to capture great content is lighting. Great lighting will instantly make your photos appear brighter, clearer, and more lively. If you don't have great natural lighting in your salon or studio, a ring light will be your best friend. Ring lights are often used by makeup artists to provide supplemental light while they are working on a client. You can find them on Amazon. Just search "Ring Light."

Clear Background

Having a clear background is a major key to giving your page a seamless and professional feel. A background that has too much going on will drown out your client and take away from your work. Many professionals will get creative with their backgrounds, but my favorite is a plain white or solid color backdrop. When choosing a background, make sure it fits your page's aesthetic and theme. You don't want it to clash with other things you may post on your page.

Multiple Angles

One photo or video just isn't enough. When capturing content be sure to get multiple angles or poses. Once you've done this, you can make a carrousel post or reel on Instagram that will allow your followers to scroll through and see your work from every angle. This will also diversify your content so that every post doesn't look the same.
